The Fens

Enjoy this train Journey across the Fens from Ipswich to Peterborough, via Ely. The Fens would have been a huge area of wetland. Today most of this habitat is pushed to the fringes. Wetland areas are often found along ditches, dykes, railways and in reserves. The land is incredibly flat in the Fens, reminiscent of Holland, almost. The soils are black and fertile, which is the main reason this vast wetland was drained.
